THORNTON, Colo.—The Westminster men's golf team is tied for third with hosts Colorado Christian at the end of two rounds on day one of the Mile High Shootout at the Todd Creek Golf Course.
The Griffins turned in a two-round score of 596 (+20) and are just one stroke behind second place Colorado Mesa and five strokes ahead of fifth place Fort Lewis.
The team played hard today and will be ready to come out tomorrow firing at pins," Head Coach
Dan Engle said. "As a team, I think we are looking fairly polished for the first event of the year."
The Griffins were second in birdies made (26) and third in pars (100). was second in field in par 5 scoring (4.65) and third in par 3 (3.40).
Masen Ward finished 1-under and is in a three-way tie for fourth, four strokes behind leader Tim Amundson of Colorado School of Mines.
"Masen played very well today but didn't score as well as he hit the ball. His golf game is the best it has ever been right now, and I'm looking forward to seeing him make a run at the individual title tomorrow," Engle said.
Bryson Hirabayashi and
Alec Williams made their Westminster debuts with a couple of solid rounds and are just a few strokes outside of the top 10. Hirabayashi and Williams are tied for 13
th with a score of 150 (+6).
"Bryson and Isaac made their college debut today and I'm proud of the grit they showed on the golf course. "
The Griffins tee off Tuesday morning at 8 am for the final round.
