Howell, Jensen Shine as Griffins Finish T6 at Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout

Battling a field that featured seven top-50 programs and 102 players including two Division I competitors from Santa Clara, Westminster's men's golf team finished tied for sixth at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park GC in Alameda, California — highlighted by Hayden Howell's All-Tournament Team selection and yet another top-10 finish from Nic Jensen.


Game Breakdown

Round One Westminster opened the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, hosted by CSU East Bay at Corica Park GC, with Andrew Ahlstrom leading the way at 6-under (66). Nic Jensen added a 1-under (71), while Hayden Howell posted a +1 (73). Ty Anderson and Wyatt Toney rounded out the team with rounds of +2 (74) and +4 (76), respectively.

Round Two Jensen and Howell continued to pace Westminster in the second round, with Jensen at 4-under (68) and Howell at 2-under (70). Toney contributed a +3 (75), while Ahlstrom posted a +5 (77) and Anderson added a +9 (81).

Round Three Howell saved his best for last, closing the tournament at 6-under (66) — tied with Ahlstrom's opening round for the low round of the week among Griffins. Jensen was steady once again at 1-under (71), while Ahlstrom shot a +3 (75), Toney posted a +5 (77), and Anderson closed with a +8 (80). The Griffins finished tied for sixth as a team.


Griffin Performances

Westminster was led by standout performances from Howell and Jensen, both competing against one of the toughest fields the Griffins have faced this season:

  • Hayden Howell earned All-Tournament Team honors with a fourth-place individual finish, posting rounds of +1 (73), -2 (70), and -6 (66) for a 54-hole total of -7. Howell's closing 66 was a highlight of the entire tournament.
  • Nic Jensen continued to build his case for postseason recognition, finishing seventh overall with rounds of -1 (71), -4 (68), and -1 (71) for a 54-hole total of -6 — adding another top-10 finish to an impressive season résumé.
  • Andrew Ahlstrom finished 35th with rounds of -6 (66), +5 (77), and +3 (75) for a 54-hole total of +2.
  • Wyatt Toney finished 82nd with rounds of +4 (76), +3 (75), and +5 (77) for a 54-hole total of +12.
  • Ty Anderson finished 100th with rounds of +2 (74), +9 (81), and +8 (80) for a 54-hole total of +19.

The Griffins will look to carry this momentum toward the Midwestern State Invitational on March 23rd-24th.
