Salt Lake City--The men's cross country team is headed to the RMAC Championships this weekend. University of Colorado-Colorado Springs is hosting the race at the Monument Valley Park. The women are scheduled to start at 9:30 am Saturday morning.
The men were ranked ninth in the preseason coaches poll but are confident they can finish higher.
"The men's team needs to continue to close the gap between our number one and number five runners," Head Coach
Dan Quinn explained. "If they do that, they will have a chance at placing higher in team results."
Seniors
DJ Matthews,
Tony Nickerson and
Aiden Urban lead the team as the top three finishers. Matthews has finished first for the Griffins in all three races, including a team-best time of 22:45.2 in the CSI Classic. Nickerson has finished second at each race and Urban has finished third twice.
Sophomore
Riley McCarter and freshman
Thomas Maxfield round out the top five across finishing fourth and fifth for Westminster at each race.
Just two weeks ago, at the Maverick Invitational, the team shaved eight minutes off its 8K time with eight runners setting season best times and three setting personal bests.
