Men's Lacrosse Finishes RMAC Season Undefeated

Griffins finished the RMAC regular reason as Champions with a 6-0 record.

Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo.—Westminster's men's lacrosse team defeated Adams State, 12-10, for a perfect conference record, 6-0.  The Griffins will see the Grizzlies on Friday for the semi-final of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship (RMAC).
 
The Grizzlies, looking for their first conference win, made it difficult for Westminster.  The Grizzlies scored took a two-goal lead after nearly 10 minutes of play.  Nick Marcy assisted Blake Gross on a man-up opportunity and scored one himself to tie the game, 2-2, with a couple of minutes left in the first period.
 
The Griffins went on a 4-0 run to start the second period a hat-trick from Kolton Atkinson and a man-up goal from Marcy.  Easton Albert scored with second left in the period to give the Griffins a 7-3 half-time lead.
 
The home team nearly shut Westminster out in the third period.  A 4-0 run by ASU tied the game, 7-7, with two minutes left in the third.  With 12 second left, Marcy found Jacob Taylor who scored to take the lead, 8-7.
 
Goals from Dylan Brauer, Gross, Marcy and Andoni Odencrantz Kept Westminster in the lead through the fourth period.  Marcy scored the game-winner, his first this season, with 2:38 left in the game.
 
It was a physical contest with 14 penalties given, six to ASU in the first half and eight to Westminster in the second half.
 
Westminster out shot ASU 49-35 and 37-17 shots on goal.  The Adams State goalie put in a heroic performance, making 25 saves, to keep the Grizzlies in the game.
 
The Griffins went 16-25 on faceoffs and won the ground ball battle, 34-20.
 
Marcy led the team with eight points from three goals and five assists.  Atkinson went 9-9 shots on goal and scored his 11th hat-trick of the season.
 
Kyle Williams grabbed eight ground balls and caused one turnover.  Atkinson, Chance Beutler Harrison Nye and Spencer Whinery each picked up three ground balls.  Marcy, Ian Nadel, Odencrantz, Grant Phillips and Quinn Lewis picked up two each.
