Men’s Lacrosse Notebook: No. 18 Colorado Mesa

Griffins Host No. 18 Mavericks on Saturday
The Westminster men's lacrosse team is back at Dumke Field on Saturday when they host No. 18 Colorado Mesa in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The first of two meetings between the two teams this season is slated for a 3 p.m. opening faceoff.

Saturday's game will be carried live on the RMAC Network, which is available online, or by downloading the app for your Roku device. David Winkworth (play-by-play) and Scott Kellner (analyst) will call the action.
 
About the Griffins
Westminster returns home at 3-4 overall and looking to bounce-back from two road losses last weekend in Colorado. The Griffins are tied for third in the RMAC standings with a 3-2 mark in conference games. The top four teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the conference tournament.
 
The Griffins are averaging 11.14 goals per game to rank fourth in the conference. They attempt 34.86 shots per game and score on 32.0 percent of those attempts. The team ranks fifth in the RMAC by scoring on 17.6 percent on man-up opportunities.
 
Troy Vance leads the team with 14 goals this season and he is tied for fifth in the RMAC in scoring 2.00 goals per game. Thomas Sarjeant has added 13 goals and leads the team with 21 points. Sarjeant is seventh in the conference by getting 3.00 points per game. Nick Marcy leads the team with nine assists and is sixth in the league at 1.29 assists per game.
 
Westminster has won just 35.8 percent of faceoffs this season – fifth in the RMAC – and they pick up 25.14 ground balls per game. They are second in the league by committing only 18.00 turnovers per contest and have killed 66.7 percent of man-down chances. They have a .804 clearing percentage and average 7.71 caused turnovers per game.
 
Dalton Tuor leads the team with 38 faceoff wins and a .452 faceoff percentage. He is also the team leader with 13 ground balls. Grant Phillips leads the Griffins with seven caused turnovers and his 1.00 CTs per game is 10th in the conference.
 
Conner McFarlane has started all seven games in goal for the Griffins with a 12.48 goals-against-average and .479 save percentage. Kyler Banks has played in three games with a .474 save percentage.
 
Sarjeant Sets the Tone
Thomas Sarjeant has 13 goals and eight assists this season to rank second on the team in each category. His 21 points lead the squad and he is seventh in the RMAC at 3.00 points per game. Sarjeant has scored multiple goals in five straight games with seven assists in the past three games played. He ranks seventh in the conference by taking 6.00 shots per game. Sarjeant is 11th in school history with 129 career points and ranks 12th in goals (61) and fourth in assists (68).
 
Vance on the Attack
Troy Vance has scored a goal in all but one game this season with multiple goals in four games. He leads the team with 14 goals overall and is fifth in the conference by scoring 2.00 goals per game. Vance has attempted 32 shots – scoring on 43.8 percent – and has two assists for 16 points. The junior ranks 19th in team history with 46 career goals and 16th with 105 career shot attempts.
 
Marcy's Debut
Nick Marcy leads the Griffins with nine assists and he has scored nine goals to place second on the squad with 18 points. Marcy has scored at least one points in six of the team's seven games this season and he has three games with at least three points. Marcy had three goals and two assists in the collegiate debut against Rockhurst on March 4 and totaled two goals and four assists at Maryville on March 19. He currently ranks sixth in the RMAC by averaging 1.29 assists per game.
 
Phillips Anchors the Defense
Grant Phillips has been the anchor of a Westminster defense that allows 12.43 goals per game. He has started all seven games at defense and leads the team with seven caused turnovers. Phillips has three CTs at Tampa on March 14 and then recorded two more at Rockhurst on March 17. He is 10th in the RMAC at 1.00 caused turnovers per game and also has recorded eight ground balls.

Looking Ahead
Westminster will head back to Colorado next weekend for two games. They play at NCAA Division III foe Colorado College on April 13 before a neutral site RMAC game against Maryville on April 15, also at Colorado College.
