SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer team saw its perfect record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference take a hit as they played Regis University to a 1-1 draw on Friday evening at Dumke Field.
It took into the 68th minute before either team could break through. That is when Westminster (6-1-1, 3-0-1 RMAC) found a go-ahead goal. After
Tiana Cerciello was fouled in the penalty area,
Heidi Lorschider stepped up and converted the corner kick. The goal was her third of the season and had the Griffins in front 1-0.
Regis (2-5-2, 2-2-1) found the equalizer in the 88th minute on their 10th corner kick of the contest. Catherine Anger played the ball from the corner where it found Maison O'Neil 12 yards off the line at the far post. O'Neil took one touch and put a shot away for the equalizer.
The teams would play the extra 20 minutes of overtime with the visiting side having two attempts turned away.
The Rangers' goal was the first allowed by the Griffins in 381 minutes and only the second the team has surrendered all year.
Westminster took 10 shots in the game and they were able to put four of them on goal. Regis countered with eight shots and put six on frame. The visitors had a 12-6 advantage in corner kicks.
Cerciello led the Griffins with three shots and two shots on goal.
Breanna Empey made five saves in goal to earn the decision.
The Griffins will now head to the road for three straight games, including a contest on Sunday at MSU Denver. That game will begin at noon and be carried live on the RMAC Network.
