DENVER – The Westminster women's soccer team picked up a point in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with a 2-2 draw at MSU Denver on Sunday afternoon.
Westminster (6-1-2, 3-0-2 RMAC) twice held leads the in the game, including a 1-0 advantage when
Abi Black scored in the 17th minute.
Heidi Lorschider played a long through ball that found a streaking Black and led to the second goal of the season the junior.
MSU Denver (3-3-4, 2-2-2) pulled even five minutes later as Regina Banks scored her first goal of the season on a feed from Alexie Marr.
The game stayed level into halftime with the Griffins taking a 12-5 shot advantage into the intermission. The visitors would again take the lead in the 47th minute as Lorschider scored her fourth goal of the year on a shot from the top of the penalty area.
Tiana Cerciello earned her second assist of the year on the play.
That lead held until the 78th minute as the Roadrunners got the equalizer when Marr scored on a corner kick service from Elise Boisnard. It was the second straight game the Griffins allowed a tying goal on an opposing corner kick.
The Griffins would have an 8-1 shot advantage in the 20 minutes of overtime, including four shots on goal. They finished the game with 27 shots – eight on goal – and allowing 14 to the Roadrunners.
Cerciello and
Madison Roemer each had six shots in the game for the Griffins. Cerciello had both of her shots on goal in the second overtime periods with Roemer getting one of her two in the first 10 minutes of extra time.
Breanna Empey went the full 110 minutes in goal for Westminster and recorded one save to earn the decision.
The Griffins are currently in third-place in the RMAC and they will play at first-place Colorado School of Mines on Friday at 5 p.m. in Golden, Colo.
