SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's soccer broke out the offense on Sunday and claimed a 6-0 win over UCCS in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Dumke Field.
Westminster (6-1, 3-0 RMAC) took the lead in the 14th minute as
Madison Roemer scored her first of three goals on the day by heading in a corner kick from
Alicia May. The duo connected again in the 22nd minute as Roemer rebounded a shot on goal by May and put it away for a 2-0 lead.
Roemer assisted on the Griffins' goal in the 33rd minute as her pass to
Heidi Lorschider led to a goal from the senior.
Abigail Black made it 4-0 early in the 46th minute as she rebounded her initial shot and scored her first of the season.
Roemer completed the first hat trick by a Griffin since 2012 when she scored on a feed from
McKell Kellogg in the 57th minute.
Hannah Gonzalez notched the final tally in the 73rd minute by converting a penalty kick for her first career goal.
The six goals by the Griffins are the most the team has scored since 2014. Roemer set the school record with seven points and her hat trick is the fifth in team history.
Westminster finished the game with 21 shots and they put 15 of them on goal. They limited UCCS (1-6, 1-2) to eight shots – four on goal – and they had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Breanna Empey earned the win and secured her fifth shutout of the year with four saves.
