SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Westminster track & field team completed the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday. The Westminster men finished their first year in the event with 25 points to place in the ninth position.
 
It was a record day for the Griffins on Sunday as they set three school records and a total of five personal-best marks. The men also had two podium finishes.
 
 
Wesley Spargo claimed one of those podium spots with a second-place finish in the men's 400 Meter Hurdles. Spargo finished the race in a school-record time of 53.44 seconds to record the top finish by a Griffin at the meet. He had qualified for the finals by placing third in the preliminaries with a time of 54.66 seconds on Saturday.
 
Joe Cremer secured a fifth-place result in the men's 800 Meter Run when he finished the race in 1:52.92. He secured the new school record in the event, breaking it for the second time this season. His fifth-place result came in the fastest 800 in RMAC history as the top three finishers all broke the previous meet record.
 
Casey Evans completed a banner weekend on the field with a third-place finish in the men's High Jump and adding a fourth-place in the men's Javelin. Evans cleared 1.97 meters in the High Jump to claim a spot on the podium. His throw of 52.65 meters in the Javelin set the school record in the event in his first time competing in the event.
 
The Westminster 4 x 400 Meter Relay team of Mitchell Sims, Dylan Chatters, Cremer, and Spargo finished seventh in the race. The team set a school record in the event with its time of 3:21.17.
 
Logan Spackman placed 12th in the men's 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.74 seconds in the preliminaries. Chandler Clark was 13th in the men's Discus after hitting a distance of 42.99 meters.
 
Jacob Stelter and Justin Boyd each set new personal-bests in the men's 5,000 Meters. Stelter finished 48th with his time of 16:20.62 with Boyd placing 62nd at 19:02.53. The event also saw Eric Mellmer finish 56th in 16:53.42 and Shay Jonart place 57th with a time of 16:55.53.
 
The final two days on the women's side saw a school record in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay. The team of Sydney Davis, Emily Schmitt, Alexandra Westbrooks, and Naena Bland finished 13th in the race by completing the event in 4:22.72.
 
Westbrooks led four Griffins in the women's 200 Meter Dash by placing 25th in 27.44 seconds. Erin Gaykowski was 31st at 32.55 seconds with Alex Martin going 33.18 seconds to place 32nd. Jillian Leis finished 33rd in the race with her time of 33.60 seconds.
 
Olivia Causse came in 35th in the women's 5,000 Meter Run by completing the race in 21:36.96. She was followed by Mara Kushner in 36th with a time of 21:39.45.
 
Allison Carson competed in three throwing events at the meet with her best finish coming in the Javelin where a throw of 29.21 meters was good enough for 15th. She was 18th in the Shot Put with a mark of 9.83 meters and placed 21st in the Discus at 25.21 meters.
 
Davis recorded the best finish of the weekend by placing 10th in the Javelin after hitting a distance of 33.11 meters. She also placed 19th in the Shot Put with a personal-best mark of 9.10 meters.
 
Adams State claimed the men's championship while Chadron State took home the title on the women's side.
