No. 3 Griffin Women Host Pair of Ranked Teams

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 3 Westminster women's basketball team plays its final two home games of the regular season this week against two nationally ranked opponents. Westminster begins the week on Thursday against No. 22 Great Falls (Mont.) comes to town. On Saturday, No. 11 Montana State-Northern comes to the Behnken Field House for a showdown between the top two teams in the Frontier Conference.
 
Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m. (MT) with a presentation to honor the seniors following the game on Saturday. Tickets for both of the Griffins remaining home games are now available online at WestminsterGriffins.com/tickets.
 
On the Web: Both of this week's games will be broadcast live on Griffins TV with Mike Lageschulte calling the action. Griffins TV is available online and on a mobile device and Roku player through the Livestream app. Live stats will also be available during the game. Griffin Fast Break: Westminster begins the week at 19-2 overall and in first-place in the Frontier Conference with a 9-1 mark in league games. The Griffins are riding their second nine-game winning streak of the season – tied for the sixth-longest streak in school history – and they have won four-straight games against ranked opponents.
 
Offense Notebook: The Griffins average 65.33 points per game on the year and they have scored at least 70 points in a game six times on the year. The team shoots 43.9 percent from the field to rank 11th in the NAIA and they lead the country by making 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Griffins make 7.52 treys per game – 11th in the NAIA – while posting 15.76 assists per game which ranks 15th nationally.
 
Defense Notebook: Westminster leads the NAIA in scoring defense by holding the opposition to 47.57 points per game. They have held 14 opponents under 50 points during the year – including six of the last eight – while placing fifth in the NAIA by holding the opposition to 33.9 percent shooting. The Griffins force 15.52 turnovers per game with an average of 7.86 steals per contest.
 
Leaders: Tia Pappas has scored a team-high 284 points on the season for an average of 13.52 points per game. She leads the NAIA by shooting 48.5 percent from beyond the arc with 32 made threes. Amy Krommenhoek has scored 258 points (12.29 per game) and she leads the team with 109 assists and 47 steals. Pappas and Amanda Hacking each have a team-best 157 rebounds and Mika Pinner leads the way with 20 blocked shots.
 
Inside the Numbers: The Griffins are 15-0 on the season when they score at least 60 points in a game. They are also perfect in 16 outings when they hold the lead at halftime. Westminster enters the week 17-0 when grabbing more rebounds than their opponent and they are 11-0 on Saturdays.
 
Looking Back: Westminster held off Montana Western, 61-54, last Saturday to maintain their spot atop the Frontier Conference standings. The Griffins had three players score in double figures with Alli Winters scoring 16 to lead the way. Pappas and Hacking grabbed 12 rebounds apiece in the win and the combined for 13 offensive boards.
 
Frontier Conference Tournament: Westminster has clinched a spot in the six-team Frontier Conference Tournament that begins with quarterfinal games on March 3. They have a magic number of one for clinching a home playoff game and that number is two for securing a bye into the March 6 semifinals. Two wins this weekend by the Griffins would secure the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament.
