SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Westminster University Director of Athletics Shelley Jarrard announced Thursday the hiring of Lynette Schroeder as the next women's basketball head coach for the Griffins.
Schroeder brings a decorated coaching resume to Westminster, compiling a 124-45 record over six seasons as head coach at Southern Virginia University. Under her leadership, the Knights captured four USA South Conference Tournament Championships and four regular season titles, while advancing to four NCAA Division III National Tournaments with a first-round victory.
"I am thrilled to announce Lynette Schroeder as our new head coach for women's basketball," said Jarrard. "Our goal was to find a proven leader at the collegiate level, someone with deep knowledge of Westminster and our region, and a commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court. Lynette exemplifies all these qualities. Having collaborated together in the past provides us with a strong foundation of trust and understanding. The timing of our paths crossing again feels perfectly aligned. We enthusiastically welcome Lynette and her family to the Westminster University community."
During her tenure at Southern Virginia, Schroeder developed two NCAA Division III All-Americans and coached 18 All-Conference selections. Her defensive prowess was evident as she built a suffocating defense that ranked first in the nation. She earned USA South Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2022 and 2025.
Schroeder previously served as an assistant coach at Westminster during the 2018-19 season, helping the Griffins to a 21-9 overall record, their first RMAC Tournament Championship game appearance, and the program's first NCAA National Tournament berth.
Before her collegiate coaching career, Schroeder led Skyline High School in Salt Lake City to a 112-42 record from 2012-2018, capturing the 2017 4A State Championship and finishing as state runner-up in 2014 and 2015. The Eagles won region championships in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 under her guidance. Her exceptional work earned her 2017 USA Today High School Coach of the Year and 2017 Xfinity Sports Coach of the Year honors.
Schroeder holds a Master of Science degree in Sports Coaching from West Virginia University (2020) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Southern Virginia University (2008).
"I'm incredibly grateful to Athletic Director Shelley Jarrard and Westminster University for this opportunity," said Schroeder. "Shelley has believed in me throughout my coaching career, and I could not be more excited to head this program under her leadership. I am ready to get to work building meaningful relationships, investing in our student-athletes, and pursuing excellence every day. We are going to compete, grow, and cultivate sustainable success that everyone connected to Westminster can be proud of. Go Griffins!"
