Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The fourth-seeded Westminster College men's lacrosse team saw its bid for a Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Tournament title come to an end with a 15-8 loss to top-seeded Colorado on Friday evening at Walker Field.
Westminster, ranked No. 10 in this week's MCLA Coaches' Poll, slips to 11-6 on the season and they must now hope for an at large berth into the MCLA National Championships.
No. 2 Colorado jumped on the Griffins early by scoring the first three goals of the game en route to a 4-1 lead after the opening quarter. The Buffaloes would continue to attack and pushed the advantage to 10-2 early in the third quarter. Westminster would only get as close as 11-6 midway through the fourth.
Josh Holland led the Griffins with four goals in the game. He also tallied one assist on a goal from
Ethan Gosselin in the third quarter.
Jake Berard,
Elias Fairman and
Collin Madsen would add the other goals for the Griffins.
The 16-team field for the 2014 MCLA National Championships will be announced next week. Westminster is hoping to be one of seven teams to receive an at large invitation to the event.
