Westminster Into Semis With 23-7 Win

Box Score SALT LAKE CITY– The No. 10 Westminster College men's lacrosse team advanced to the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Tournament with a 23-7 win over Utah on Sat. afternoon at a rainy Dumke Field.

The fourth-seeded Griffins jumped out to a 3-0 lead after getting goals from Elias Fairman, Ethan Gosselin and Kyle Postler in a 34 second span in the first quarter. Leading 5-1 after the opening quarter, Westminster put seven goals on the board in the second quarter to lead 12-2 at intermission. Josh Holland scored three times in the period and Fairman added a pair.

Westminster finished the game with a 50-23 edge in shots taken and they put 36 of those attempts on cage. They forced Utah into 15 turnovers and went 13-of-14 in clearing chances.

Holland finished the afternoon with a team high in goals (4) and assists (3). Postler added three assists to his three goals with Fairman and Eric Crosby posting three goals and one assist each. Chris Burckle made three saves in 32 minutes in goals. Jake Berard won 12-of-18 face-offs.

The Griffins will now face top-seeded Colorado in the semifinals of the conference tournament. The game will be played at Walker Field in Grand Junction, Colo. on May 2 at 7 p.m. MDT.
