Griffins Beat UNLV, Lose at Whittier to Open Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHITTIER, Calif. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost for the first time this season when they dropped a 9-6 decision at Whittier (Calif.) on Sunday afternoon. Whittier is a NCAA DIII team and the loss doesn't count in the Griffins MCLA standings.

Westminster (2-1) failed to score in the first half and trailed 5-0 at intermission. Jake Berard got the Griffins on the board early in the second half with Josh Holland and Dylan Check also scoring in the third quarter for Westminster. Ethan Gosselin and Eric Crosby opened the fourth quarter with goals to get the Griffins within 7-5 with 8:31 to play. After Whittier (1-0) scored back-to-back goals, Collin Madsen capped the day's scoring for Westminster.

Whittier finished the afternoon with a 39-32 edge in shots. The Griffins managed only 14 of their attempts on goal while committing 26 turnovers. They war 15-of-23 in clearing attempts and won just 7-of-12 face-offs.

Westminster opened this three-game road trip with a 10-8 win at UNLV on Friday. Kyle Postler led the Griffins with three goals in the win. Holland and Elias Fairman each scored two goals and Chris Burckle made 17 saves.

The Griffins will close the trip on Wednesday when they visit Loyola Marymount at 4 p.m. MST.
