Women Will Spend Thanksgiving Weekend at Lady Yote Classic

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 4 Westminster women's basketball team will spend Thanksgiving Weekend in Caldwell, Idaho as they play a pair of games at the Lady Yote Classic. Westminster begins the Classic against the host, College of Idaho, on Friday at 7 p.m. MT. They will then play Eastern Oregon University on Saturday at 3 p.m. with both games in the J.A. Albertson Activities Center on the College of Idaho campus.
 
On the Web: College of Idaho will have all four games of the Lady Yote Classic available to watch online through their Game Central portal. There will also be live stats available for all of the games. Links for the live features are available on the Westminster athletics web site.
 
Griffin Fast Break: Westminster heads to Idaho at 6-0 on the season. The Griffins have gone 4-0 at home and 2-0 in road games on the year. They are ranked No. 4 in the preseason NAIA Coaches' Poll that was released on Oct. 28. The Griffins head to Caldwell having won nine straight road games and seven straight neutral site games against unranked opponents. They have also defeated the last 24 unranked opponents they have faced.
 
Offense Notebook: The Griffins average 68.67 points per game on the year and they shoot 45 percent from the field. They are 16th in the NAIA in field goal percentage and also place 19th by making 36.5 percent from beyond the arc. Westminster is making 7.67 threes per game to place 12th in the country and they sit 19th at 17.17 assists per game and seventh with a 1.30 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
Defense Notebook: Westminster is one of the top defensive teams in the country and they currently sit third in the country by holding the opposition to 48 points per game. Through six games, Griffin opponents are shooting 33.5 percent from the field and 23.9 percent from beyond the arc. That places the Griffins 14th and 13th respectively in the NAIA in those categories. Westminster is 10th nationally by holding their opponents to 31.33 rebounds per game and they are forcing 17.17 turnovers per contest with a 0.57 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
Leaders: Tia Pappas is tops on the squad in scoring at 15.5 points per game and she ranks fifth in the Frontier Conference in that category. Amy Krommenhoek is 11th in the league at 13.3 points per game and she is first by making 3.17 triples per outing. Amanda Hacking is grabbing 9.0 rebounds per game and she is 25th in the NAIA with that average. Krommenhoek is fourth in the nation at 6.5 assists per game and Pappas ranks 31st in steals at 2.5 per contest.
 
Looking Back: Westminster remained perfect at 6-0 on the season with a pair of road wins at teams from the Golden State Athletic Conference last weekend. Krommenhoek led three Griffins with 13 points in a 61-46 win at Hope International University (Calif.) on Friday. She also recorded a career-high 10 assists for her first career double-double. Westminster put another three in double figures, led by Krommenhoek's 14, in their 62-46 win at Biola University (Calif.) on Saturday. Hacking finished with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in the win.
 
In the Polls: Westminster opened the year with a No. 4 national ranking according to the 2014-15 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Oct. 28. The Griffins received 226 points to sit in the top-five of the NAIA poll for the 26th straight poll. They have now been ranked is 37 straight polls and 82 polls all-time. The first regular season poll will be released on Dec. 9.
 
Conference Dominance: The Griffins have been the team to beat in the Frontier Conference over the past six seasons. Since the start of the 2008-09 season, Westminster has gone 82-5 in league games and won six straight conference titles. They have twice gone undefeated in league play, including a 16-0 mark last season. The 82 conference wins during that span is 22 more than the 60 posted by the next highest team during the stretch, Lewis-Clark State.
 
Home Dominance: Since the start of the 2012-13 season, Westminster has compiled a 29-1 mark in the Behnken Field House. The .967 winning percentage during that time is the best three-year home mark in school history. They have won a school-record 29 straight home games since losing to The Master's College (Calif.) in the 2012-13 season opener.
 
Love the Long Ball: Westminster has taken 126 three-point field goals through six games this season. They rank 12th in the NAIA by making 7.67 per game while sitting 19th by making 36.5 percent of those attempts. The team has at least six threes in every games this season and they went for a season-high 12 made threes against College of Idaho on Nov. 8. Krommenhoek averages 3.17 made triples per game to place ninth in the country and Pappas sits 11th nationally by making 50 percent of her attempts. Alli Winters is 46th in the nation by making 2.17 treys per game.
 
Getting Defensive: Westminster has been one of the premier defensive teams in the country over the past four seasons. After finishing second in the country last season by allowing just 52.24 points per game, the Griffins are allowing just 48 points per game to start this season. They are third nationally in scoring defense and 14th by holding opponents to 33.5 percent shooting. The Griffins limit opponents to 23.9 percent shooting on three-point attempts – 13th nationally – and they force 17.17 turnovers per game by getting 8.83 steals per outing.
 
Pappas for Player of the Year: The Frontier coaches selected Westminster senior Tia Pappas as the Preseason Player of the Year in the conference and she is off to a fast start. Pappas is currently ranked in the Frontier top-20 in 16 statistical categories and she is fifth in the conference by scoring 15.5 points per game. She is second in the conference by shooting 55.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from three. Pappas is also making 84.6 percent at the foul line she average 2.5 steals per game to rank third in the conference in each category.
 
Krommenhoek a Starter: After being named the Frontier Conference Sixth-Player of the Year last season, Amy Krommenhoek has moved into the starting lineup this season. The senior is scoring 13.33 points per game on the year and she is fourth in the country by handing out 6.50 assists per game. Krommenhoek makes 40.4 percent from three and she is ninth in the NAIA by making 3.17 treys per game. She had a career-high 10 assists for her first career double-double in the win at Hope International on Nov. 21 and her 4.33 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks 15th in the NAIA.
 
Winters from Deep: After leading the NAIA in 3-point field goal percentage last season at 52.5 percent, Alli Winters is back in 2014-15. The senior is shooting 39.4 percent from three this season and she averages 2.17 made threes per outing. Winters is scoring 9.2 points per game through the first six games while distributing 3.33 assists. She is the Westminster all-time leader in 3-point field goal percentage by making 49.7 percent from deep over the past two seasons.
 
Hacking the Glass: Amanda Hacking has been a force on the boards through the first six games of the season. She currently leads the team with 54 rebounds and ranks 25th in the nation with an average of 9.0 rebounds per game. Hacking grabs 3.33 rebounds per game on the offensive end – 38th in the nation – and she is scoring 9.3 points per game. The junior recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds at Biola on Nov. 22.
 
Looking Ahead: Next week, the Griffins will travel to Logan, Utah, for an exhibition contest against Utah State on Dec. 6. The action will tip at 2 p.m. MT from the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
