SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 4 Westminster women's basketball team used a big offensive night and hot shooting to cruise to an 87-64 win over Concordia (Calif.) on Friday night in the Behnken Field House in the second game of the Westminster Fall Classic.

Westminster (3-0) never trailed in the game as an early 13-2 run that featured a pair of threes from
Tia Pappas and another from
Alli Winters, put the Griffins in front 15-4 less than six minutes into the action. Westminster would finish the half shooting 60 percent from the floor and 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. They were able to lead 47-27 at the half despite 50 percent shooting from Concordia (2-1) in the half by forcing the Eagles into eight turnovers which resulted in 18 Griffin points.

The Griffins would then build on the lead by opening the second half with a 12-3 advantage of the first 4:32. Pappas scored six points during the stretch and they limited the visitors to just 1-of-8 shooting and forced two turnovers. Concordia closed the gap late by outscoring the Griffins 16-2 during a nearly five-minute span where they forced four turnovers and got eight points from Janis Peterson.

Westminster finished the game shooting 52.9 percent from the floor as they reached 80 points for the first time in 12 games dating back to last season. They had the ball moving to 20 assists on 27 made field goals with 36 points in the paint and 16 second chance points from 13 offensive rebounds.

Concordia shot 36.8 percent in the game, going just 10-for-35 after halftime. They turned 16 offensive rebounds into 19 second chance points and they scored 21 points from 14 Westminster miscues.

Pappas finished with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting. She was perfect of two three-point attempts and made all six of her free throws while grabbing a team-best nine rebounds with four assists and three steals. Winters had 12 points and four assists.
Jamaica Christensen sparked a 36-point effort from the bench by scoring a career-high 13 points in 14 minutes.
Amy Krommenhoek went for six points and a career-high nine assists.

Peterson and September Offutt led the Eagles with 14 points apiece. Offutt grabbed a team-best nine rebounds with six coming on the offensive end.

Westminster will close out the Fall Classic on Saturday at 5 p.m. MT when they face Arizona Christian. Concordia plays Montana Tech, a 75-53 winner over Arizona Christian in the first game, in game No. 3 at 3 p.m.
