Box Score GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The 18th-ranked Westminster College men's basketball team dropped a 71-62 decision to great Falls (Mont.) on Friday night in Frontier Conference play in the McLaughlin Center.
Westminster suffers a second straight loss and falls to 20-6 overall this season. They take a big hit in the conference race and they fall to 7-5 and drop to fourth-place in the standings. Great Falls moves to 17-11 overall and 8-6 in the league by sweeping the season series with Westminster for the first time in school history.
It was a tough shooting night for the Griffins playing on regional television for the first time in school history. They went just 23-of 62 from the field for the Altitude Sports Network audience. The 37.1 percent is the lowest the team has shot in a game this season. They also struggled from deep, going 6-of-19 (31.6 percent) from beyond the arc. Westminster was out-rebounded 36-32 and they committed 14 turnovers.
Jake Orchard and
Colton Moon led the Griffins with 12 points apiece. Moon scored all 12 of his points thanks to shooting 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Orchard was 6-of-6 from the foul line while also grabbing four rebounds and four assists.
Alex Drecksel added nine points and seven rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
James Holmes led all scorers with 27 points for the Argonauts. He shot 7-of-11 from the floor and made 13-of-15 at the foul line. After scoring a school-record 43 against the Griffins last month, Marcel Towns had 12 points and four steals on Friday.
Westminster will look to get back on the right track on Saturday when they travel to Havre, Mont. to play No. 12 Montana State-Northern. The action from the Armory Gymnasium will begin at 8 p.m.
