Ryan Smith the Westminster College men's soccer team advanced to the semi-finals of the Frontier Conference/A.I.I./Unaffiliated Men's Soccer Tournament by defeating Walla Walla (Wash.), 6-1, in Thursday's quarterfinals.
Westminster, the tournament's No. 4 seed, is now 9-10 on the season as they face top-seeded Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Friday afternoon. Walla Walla finishes the season at 2-13.
Smith scored his first goal at the 23:54 of the first period with an assist from
Omar Jaimes. Smith teamed of with
Andrew Clayton for two more first period goals. The Griffins scored two more goals before Walla Walla finally found the net late in the second period.
The Griffins took 19 shots in the game with 13 of those attempts on goal. The held Walla Walla just two shots in the game with
Logan Butzier making one save to earn the shutout victory.
