Griffins are Fourth Seed at This Weekend’s Conference Tournament

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team is the No. 4 seed at the Unaffiliated Conference Tournament that is taking place this weekend in Billings, Mont. Westminster will open with fifth-seeded Walla Walla (Wash.) in a quarterfinal game on Thursday at 2 p.m. MST.

Westminster begins the postseason after recording an 8-10 overall record during the season. They finished 3-6 away from home during the year and 1-4 against other teams in the tournament.

The Griffins are averaging 1.11 goals per game heading into Thursday's contest. They attempt 9.8 shots per outing with 50.8 percent of those on goal. Ryan Smith leads the team with nine goals, including three game-winners. Manuel Duenas, Anthony Alcox, and Henry Dankwa have all scored two goals. Duenas and Trenton Petersen are tied for the team lead with two assists.

Westminster opponents are scoring 1.44 goals per game while taking 11.2 shots per game. The Griffins tallied six shutouts during the regular season. Logan Butzier leads the Griffins with a 1.26 goals-against-average and a .784 save percentage.

With a win on Thursday, the Griffins would advance to a semi-final game on Friday at 2 p.m. MST against either top-seeded Rocky Mountain (Mont.) or second-seeded Great Falls (Mont.). The championship game is slated for 1:30 p.m. MST on Saturday.
