SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team makes a trip to California for two games this weekend. Westminster opens the trip at Bethesda (Calif.) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. MDT. They then visit Cal State San Marcos on Saturday at 3 p.m. MDT.

There will be live stats for the game at Cal State San Marcos on Saturday with a link available in the calendar section of WestminsterGriffins.com.

GRIFFIN NOTEBOOK
Westminster returns to the road looking to snap a two-game losing skid. The Griffins have gone 1-3 in games away from home this season, including two road losses last week. These two games are part of a seven-game road swing to close out the season.

The Griffins have scored 15 goals this season while recording an assist on 10 of those goals. They have scored multiple goals in a game on five occasions. Westminster is attempting 10.1 shots per game with 49 percent of those of goal. The Griffins have scored 10 of their 15 goals after halftime with 101 of their shots after intermission.

Westminster opponents have scored 24 goals during the year with an assist on 17 of them. The Griffins have allowed multiple goals in a game seven times and three times in the past four games. The opposition has 15 goals during the first 45 minutes of action during the season. They are averaging 10.9 shots per game and putting 54.9 percent of them on goal.

AGAINST THE OPPOSITION
Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Griffins and Bethesda. Westminster has gone 1-1 against first-time opponents this season.

Westminster holds a 3-1 edge in the all-time series with Cal State San Marcos. The Griffins claimed a 1-0 win over the Cougars earlier this season at Dumke Field. CSUSM won last season's game in San Marcos, 3-0, and the two teams have split the two games in San Marcos.

LOOKING BACK
Westminster fell behind Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in the 23rd minute on a goal from Tanner Wolff. The Griffins would draw even in the 57th minute when Ryan Smith scored on a penalty kick. The game would be decided 56 seconds into overtime when Rocky's Oliver Gore scored on a penalty kick.

Great Falls (Mont.) used two goals and one assist from Luis Torres to defeat the Griffins 3-0 on Sunday. Torres scored in the 10th and 49th minutes and picked up an assist on a Danny Delgadillo goal in the 28th minute. The loss completed Frontier Conference play for the Griffins with a record of 0-4.

SCORING FROM SMITH
Senior Ryan Smith continues to be the top scoring threat for the Griffins in 2013. Smith has scored six goals on the season while taking a team-best 43 shots. The senior tallied the equalizer at Saint Ambrose (Iowa) to snap a four-game scoring drought. Smith would then notch his first assist of the year on the game-winning goal later in the contest. Smith scored on a penalty kick in the loss at Rocky Mountain (Mont.) to give him goals in consecutive games for the second time this season.

ALL ABOUT ALCOX
Junior Anthony Alcox has become a scoring threat over the past few games for the Griffins. After scoring the game-winner against Johnson & Wales (Colo.), Alcox scored the team's first goal in a 3-2 loss at fifth-ranked Ashford (Iowa). He is tied for second on the team with two goals and four points. Alcox has attempted 26 shots with nine of them on goal this season.

HELP FROM DUENAS
Junior Manuel Duenas notched his second career goal in the team's 2-1 win over The Master's (Calif.). For Duenas, it was his first career game-winner and came on his first shot of the season. He recorded his first assist of the year against MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) as his service from a free kick led to the game-winner. Duenas is tied for the team lead with two assists on the year while also attempting 10 shots.

DORICH CLIMBING THE CHARTS
In his 30th season as the head coach of the Westminster men's soccer team, Chris Dorich is eighth among active NAIA coaches with 271 victories. Since Dorich launched the men's soccer program at Westminster in 1984, the team has posted 15 winning seasons and finished with double-digit wins on 11 occasions. The team had six straight seasons of 10-plus wins from 1990-1995 and set a school record with 15 wins during the 2001 campaign. Dorich has also guided Westminster to 18 postseason appearances and they made eight trips to the NAIA Region I Playoffs from 1994-2007.
