Jaimes Goal Completes Comeback at Saint Ambrose

Box Score DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Westminster College men's soccer team won on the road for the first time this season with a 2-1 defeat of Saint Ambrose (Iowa) on Sunday afternoon.

It would be Saint Ambrose (8-5) that would get on the board early. Nick Stackhouse finished a shot in the 10th minute on a pass by Charlie MacInnes. That lead would hold until the 45th minute when Ryan Smith scored his fifth goal of the season for Westminster (6-7) just seconds before halftime. Connor Thompson was credited with his second assist of the season on the goal.

The Griffins would take the lead when Omar Jaimes scored his first goal of the season in the 75th minute. The goal was created on a pass from Smith and completed the Griffins first comeback victory of the season.

Westminster finished the game with 14 shot attempts with six of them on goal. They allowed 12 shots from Saint Ambrose and six of those attempts on frame. The Griffins took three corner kicks while giving up six to the home squad.

Jaimes and Anthony Alcox took four shots apiece to lead the Griffins. Jamies put three of his on goal with Smith getting both of his shots on target. Logan Butzier recorded five saves in goal for his sixth win of the year.

The Griffins are back on the road next weekend with a trip to Montana. They begin at Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. from Wendy's Field.
