SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College women's lacrosse team opens the 2012 season over the weekend with three games at Santa Barbara Shootout.  Westminster will begin the 2012 season on Friday with a game against Duke at 2:30 p.m.  The Griffins will then face San Diego State and St. Benedict in Saturday games.  All three games will be played on the UCSB campus with games on Stroke Field and Rob Field.

Griffin Notebook
Westminster enters the weekend coming off the most successful season in school history.  The Griffins finished 17-7 in 2011 and won the Rocky Mountain Women's Lacrosse League championship.  They advanced to the WCLA National Championships for the first time in school history and came home with a fourth-place finish.

The 2012 squad returns 15 players from the championship team. Among the group of returns is Chelsea Farrell.  Farrell led the Griffins in scoring last season with 85 goals and 108 points.  Sage Johnson is back after scoring 41 goals with a team-best 36 assists last season.  Westminster also welcomes back Kaicee Beal from a knee injury. Beal scored 29 goals in the six games she played last season.

Newcomers Katy Dalrymple and Makenzie Hekking will look to step into the Griffins cage this season.  They will look to replace Regan Lelli in goal and have some big shoes to fill. Westminster allowed just 10.9 goals per game last season with Lelli posting a 47.7% save percentage.

Preseason Player of the Year
Lacrosse Magazine named Griffin senior Farrell the WCLA Preseason Player of the Year.  She was named the POY after winning an online voting contest that was hosted by the magazine.  Farrell becomes the first Griffin in school history to win the preseason award.  Last season, Farrell was named a Frist Team WCLA All-American and First Team All-RMWLL.

Broadcast Slate
Westminster is pleased to announce that all nine home games will be broadcast live on the new Griffins TV.  With multiple cameras, Griffins TV will provide one of the best lacrosse broadcasts in all of the WCLA.  They will also broadcast every game of the RMWLL Conference Tournament on the channel.  Griffins TV can be found on the web at www.WestminsterGriffins.com/GriffinsTV.
