SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College men's soccer team opens the 2011 season with two home games over the weekend. Westminster opens with Baker on Friday at 4 p.m. and then face Frontier Conference foe Rocky Mountain on Monday, August 29 at 6 p.m.

Tickets
Tickets for Westminster College home athletic events can be purchased on the day of the game at the event site. Typically, tickets will be on sale one hour before the start of the event and accepted payments include: cash, check and all major credit cards.
Tickets cost $4 for adults and $3 for children, seniors, alumni and non-Westminster students. Current Westminster students receive free admission with a valid student ID.
Dumke Field
Men's soccer home games are played on Dumke Field. Pets are not allowed on Dumke Field. Purchase tickets at northwest gate entrance and all seating is general admission. Persons with disabilities can access the field at the northeast gate entrance and proceed to the grandstand area.
Friday's Opponent: Baker
The game on Friday is the season opener for Baker. The Wildcats return nine starters, including eight juniors, from the 2010 squad that finished 10-6-2. They were upset in the semi-finals of their conference tournament a year ago.
Seniors Steven Stewart and Lowndes will provide the Wildcats with an offensive spark at the forward and midfield positions. Lowndes led the team in 2010 with five goals, while Stewart led the squad with five assists.
Monday's Opponent: Rocky Mountain
Rocky Mountain will face the Griffins in the conference opener for each team. Rocky went 9-7-0 in 2010 and lost in the semi-finals of the Unaffiliated Tournament.
Oliver Gore returns after scoring 16 goals with 33 points last season. Nick Hefferman also returns after scoring 10 goals while Chris Jeremy is back after a team-best six assists in 2010. Chris Perez made 34 saves with a 1.58 GAA between the pipes for Rocky last year.
Griffin Notebook
Westminster returns 16 players from the 2010 team that finished 11-8-1. Leading scorer
Dennis Sellis is back from an injury after posting 17 points and eight goals last season.
Jace Maxfield also returns after scoring five goals and three game-winners in 2010.
Both keepers are back from 2010.
Damir Sabanovic recorded 49 saves with a 1.18 GAA in nine starts last season. Nate Young made 35 saves with a 1.39 GAA in 10 starts as a junior.
Dumke Advantage
The Griffins have posted a 38-11-3 all-time record on the fast surface of Dumke Field. In the past three year Westminster is 19-3-2 at home, including 5-0-1 in 2008. They were 8-2 at home last year and outscored the opposition 14-6 in those 10 contests.
Among the Best
Westminster head coach
Chris Dorich enters his 28th season at the helm of the program. He has totaled 246 wins in his career and ranks 25th in NAIA history in that category. Dorich also ranks 10th in career victories among active NAIA coaches.
Unaffiliated Conference
The NAIA approved the creation of a second Unaffiliated Conference that included the teams of the Frontier Conference and four teams from the Association of Independent Institutions. The new conference will feature: Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), Great Falls (Mont.), Jamestown College (N.D.), Marymount University (Calif.), Rocky Mountain (Mont.), Soka University (Calif.) and Westminster.
There will be a conference tournament held at Dumke Field. The top four ranked teams will qualify for the tournament with two semi-final games on November 11 and the championship on November 12.
