Men’s Lacrosse Heads to RMLC Tournament

SALT LAKE CITY – The 10th-ranked Westminster men's lacrosse team will travel to Grand Junction, Colo. for the 2011 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference Tournament this week. Westminster earned an opening round bye and will face the winner of Colorado Mines and Fort Lewis on Friday, May 6 at 10 a.m. in the semi-finals. The championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. All games will be played at Walker Field on the campus of Mesa State College.

Westminster earned the opening round bye by winning the RMLC West division. The Griffins went 3-0 in league games and are 10-7 overall this season. They enter the tournament riding a modest two-game winning streak and coming off a 16-6 win over Utah Valley on April 23.

Josh Condas has totaled a team-best 46 points with 29 goals and 17 assists. Jake Arthur leads all Griffins with 33 goals and 81 shots. Gian Sexsmith has scored 29 goals and 37 points while Jacob Wayman has 37 points behind a team-high 26 assists. Dallas McLellan has made 158 saves in the Westminster cage with a 58.1% save percentage.

Against the Field
Westminster is a combined 15-5 against the other five teams in the tournament all-time. They are 6-1 against the two teams they could face in the semi-finals. The Griffins are 1-0 all-time against Colorado Mines and 5-1 versus Fort Lewis, including an 11-6 win this season. Westminster is also 2-0 against Northern Colorado, Utah Valley, and Metro State this season.

At the Tournament
The Griffins have been very successful at the RMLC Tournament in the program's history. Westminster is 6-2 all-time at the event and won the title in 2007 and 2008. They won the first five games they ever played in the conference tournament and have advanced to the title game all four years.

MCLA National Championships
The winner or the RMLC Tournament earns an automatic invite to the MCLA National Championships in Denver, Colo. from May 17-21. Westminster is also in a position to earn an at-large berth into the 16-team field that will be announced on Sunday. The tournament will be held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park with the semi-finals and championship games being held in the stadium.
