ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Westminster men's and women's golf teams split wins against Lewis-Clark State College at the Westminster Invitational Dual that wrapped up play Tuesday at Sunbrook Golf Club. The Westminster women defeated LC State 683-730. The Griffins men dropped a 629-654 decision to the 21st-ranked Warriors.

The women won the team title by taking each of the top three individual positions. Mikayla Williamson won the individual title by shooting 169 over the two days. She was in second place following Monday's opening round with an 85, but she rallied to shoot 84 on Tuesday to win the title. Candace Dechant and Jenteal Jackson finished tied for second with a total score of 170. Dechant shot a tournament-low 82 on Monday while Jackson shot an 84 on Tuesday.

As a team, Westminster shot 339 on Monday and followed that with a 344 on Tuesday. Keni Nelson finished fifth for the Griffins with a 179 with Brandi Bork placing seventh at 183. Katie Felt shot 188 to finish ninth while Chloe McClintick made her season debut with a 12th-place finish at 201.

"I thought our women handled themselves really well against a very difficult course setup at Sunbrook,” assistant coach Mike Nickas commented. “We had a tough showing in Vegas last week so this was a nice recovery for us.”

Idah Whisenant led LCSC with a fourth-place finish behind her 176. The Warriors shot 360 on Monday and then 370 on Tuesday to finish at 730.

Westminster had a strong showing against the nation's 21st-ranked team. The Griffins shot 326 on Monday and followed that with a 328 on Tuesday. Bryce Till led Westminster with his sixth-place finish. Till shot 78-82 for a total score of 160. Matt Bushman finished seventh at 163 with Collin Wilkinson right behind in seventh with his score of 165. Alex Howlett and Taylor Donaldson rounded out the team scores for the Griffins with a 166 and 172 respectively.

Brian Panter finished tied for 10th as an individual with his 172. Michael Louder finished 13th at 178 and Cole Dixon was 15th with a two-round score of 184.

"If you'd have told me a week ago that we'd be within 25 shots of a nationally ranked program like L-C State after a two-round event, I'd have been pleased,” Nickas said. “In the end, we really had a chance to give them an honest run, we just couldn't hit the shots needed.”

Kyler Gable and Drew Reinland tied for the individual title with final scores of 153 for LC State. The Warriors shot 311-318 for the team score of 629.

Westminster will return to Frontier Conference action at the Montana Tech event on April 18 and 19. The meet will be held at Fairmont Golf Course in Butte, Mont.
