Women’s Lacrosse Moves to 8-0

SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster women's lacrosse team pushed its season opening winning streak to eight games with a 12-10 victory over Utah on Tuesday evening on Dumke Field.

Westminster is now 8-0 for the first time in school history and they improve to 4-0 in RMWLL games. Utah falls to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the RMWLL.

Westminster jumped out early, scoring the first two goals of the game. After a Utah tally, Lindey Mark scored back-to-back goals for the Griffins to put them ahead 4-1 with 25:25 remaining in the first half. The Griffins would three of the final four goals of the half and carried a 9-6 advantage into intermission.

Chelsea Farrell scored her fifth goal of the game at the 22:14 mark of the second period to put Westminster ahead 10-6. After each team traded goals, Utah scored three straight over a seven minute stretch to cut the deficit to 11-10 with 12:49 remaining. Farrell would strike for the sixth time with 8:53 to play to make the score 12-10. Neither team would find the back of the net down the stretch.

Westminster finished the game with a 29-25 advantage in shots. They also won the draw control battle 12-10 despite only posting two controls in the second half. Utah collected 47 ground balls to the 40 of the Griffins.

Farrell's six goals led the Griffins and set her career high. She scored those goals on 10 shots with nine on goal. Mark finished with three goals on seven shots. Lisa Webber, Sage Johnson, and McKenzie Deustchendorf also scored for Westminster with the Deustchendorf goal counting as the game winner on her first career goal. Erin Foslid picked up a team-best six ground balls while adding three draw controls. Regan Lelli made six saves after checking into the game midway through the first half.

Laura Hunter led Utah with four goals and two assists. She also collected eight ground balls. Haley Poulson added two goals whit Baylee Fox grabbing six ground balls.

Westminster will return to action on Friday when they host Brigham Young. The action on Dumke Field will begin at 5 p.m.
