DENVER, Colo. – The Westminster men's lacrosse team advanced to the quarterfinals of the MCLA National Championship with an 11-7 win over seventh-seeded Elon on Tuesday afternoon. Westminster outscored Elon 8-2 in the second half to advance out of the opening round for the fourth time in as many seasons.
Westminster led the game 2-1 early, but found themselves behind 5-3 at the halftime intermission. They used a 4-1 third quarter to gain the lead and never looked back. Westminster then posted a 4-1 fourth quarter to hold off any late charge by Elon and claim the win.
Jacob Wayman led the Westminster attack with three goals.
Josh Condas added two goals while Hayen Dixon posted two points with one goal and one assist.
Dallas McLellan turned away 16 Elon shots between the pipes for the Griffins.
Westminster will face No. 2 seed Dayton in Wednesday's quarterfinal game. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the outer fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
