SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-6 decision to Utah on Dumke Field on Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Griffins to 5-3 on the season while Utah improves to 5-1.
Trailing 3-0 entering the second quarter, Westminster rallied back and trailed just 5-4 with 11:37 left in the third quarter. Utah then exploded for seven consecutive goals to build a 12-4 lead. Westminster scored four goals in the last 8:40 of the game, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
Utah held the home squad to just 23 shots while attempting 52 shots themselves. Westminster also collected just 27 ground balls and committed 22 turnovers. The Griffins did convert on two extra-man opportunities in three attempts.
Josh Condas finished with three goals and one assist in defeat. Condas attempted a team-best five shots while collecting two ground balls.
Kellen Lynn added two goals on four shots.
Hayden Dixon,
Dallin Hall, and
Brett Bird also had goals for the Griffins.
Jake Arthur collected a team high four ground balls while
Dallas McLellan recorded 16 saves.
Westminster returns to action on Saturday, March 27 when they host Montana State on Dumke Field. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
