WHITEFISH, Mont. –
Jenteal Jackson of the Westminster women's golf team was named the 2010-11 Frontier Conference Player of the Year for women's golf, the commissioner Kent Paulson announced today. She was joined on the Frontier First-Team All-Conference squad by
Mikayla Williamson and
Candace Dechant.
Jackson becomes the first Griffin to be named golfer of the year by the Frontier. She also joins Williamson and Dechant as the first golfers in school history to be named all-conference.
Jackson, a junior from Salt Lake City, was named the golfer of the year after posting 560 strokes in the seven rounds played during Frontier Conference tournaments this season. She has played a total of nine rounds this season and averages 81.1 strokes per round. Jackson has collected two wins and has four top-5 finishes. In conference meets, Jackson has two wins and finished fourth in the other.
Williamson, a sophomore from Laketown, Utah, was named First Team All-Frontier after recording 567 strokes in conference play. She is third in the individual standings in conference action and finished in the top three in every event. For the season, Williamson is averaging 82 strokes per round with one victory and a top five finish in all five events played.
Dechant, a freshman from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, made the first team after scoring 575 strokes in three conference tournaments. Dechant finished fifth during the regular season standings and finished in the top five in all three conference events. For the year, Dechant is averaging 84.2 strokes per round in six tournaments played.
Westminster head coach
Chris Hendrickson was named the Frontier Conference Women's Coach of the Year. He guided the team to the school's first-ever regular season championship this season. He becomes the first Westminster coach to win this award.
Katy Peterson of Rocky Mountain College was named Freshman of the Year.
Westminster is the No. 1 seed at the Frontier Conference Championships that begin Monday morning. They face No. 8 seed Montana Western in the quarterfinals with the winner advancing to face the winner of the Carroll vs. Montana Tech match in the semi-finals.
