SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster volleyball team opened its home schedule with a sweep of New Mexico Highlands, 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-13), at Behnken Field House.

Set 1
Westminster built an early cushion behind Elsa Gilmore (6 kills, .600 hitting), Kaneo Haneberg (2 kills, .667) and Alie Coleman (2 kills, .500) at the net. N.M. Highlands hung around and pulled within one, 16-15, but the Griffins answered immediately, closing the set on a 9-0 run to take it 25-15. Westminster piled up 14 kills without a single attacking error in the frame, hitting .378 as a team.
Set 2
The night's tightest set featured seven tie scores and three lead changes. After N.M. Highlands tied the set at 24-24, Elsa Gilmore's kill put the Griffins back up 25-24. Highlands answered to tie it again at 25-25, but Kyra Mahler's kill made it 26-25, and Ava Livolsi closed it out with a service ace to secure the set, 27-25. Westminster tallied three of the team's six aces on the night in this set alone.
Set 3
The Griffins pulled away for good in the finale, hitting a match-best .415 as a team — again without a single attack error. Kyra Mahler was perfect at the net, going 3-for-3 in kills, Alie Coleman added four more kills on .500 hitting, and Apiline White went a perfect 7-for-7 serving with an ace as Westminster closed out the sweep, 25-13.
For the match, Westminster hit .300 as a team with 44 kills, out-blocked N.M. Highlands 7-2, and served six aces.
