Griffins Rally Past CSU Pueblo 14-8 in Home RMAC Win


Game Breakdown

First Half

Jessie Giacomazzi opened the scoring for Westminster, but CSU Pueblo's Sophia Rinn quickly tied it at 1-1. Olivia Petrosky put the Griffins back ahead at 2-1 before the ThunderWolves rattled off three straight — Sienna Rinn, Sydney Gunnels, and Ainsley Jackson — to close the first quarter ahead 4-2. CSU Pueblo extended the lead to 5-2 on a Chloe Mora man-up goal to open the second, but Holly Shoughro answered quickly to make it 5-3. CSU Pueblo pushed back to 6-3 on another Sienna Rinn goal before Westminster closed the gap with Petrosky and Bendorf on a free position shot to trail 6-5 at halftime.

Second Half

Sienna Garcia took over in goal to start the third quarter. Grace Szwedko opened the frame with a goal off an Ava Deakins assist to tie it at 6-6, but CSU Pueblo retook the lead on a Sienna Rinn goal to go up 7-6. Madi Rogers answered off a Holly Shoughro assist to even it at 7-7 heading into the fourth. Westminster took an early lead in the fourth on a Rogers man-up goal to go up 8-7, but Jackson tied it back up at 8-8. Williamson then took over, scoring consecutive goals to put Westminster ahead for good at 9-8 and extend the lead to 10-8. Holly Shoughro added a free position goal, Williamson scored twice more including a man-up strike, and Grace Szwedko capped the scoring with a man-up goal off a Williamson assist to seal the 14-8 final.
