SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster University has named Casey Stanley as the head coach of the Griffins men's basketball program, Shelley Jarrard announced today.
Stanley brings 18 years of collegiate and national prep coaching experience to Westminster, including 15 years at the NCAA Division I level. Most recently, he served as Head Coach and National Prep Program Director at Layton Christian Academy, where he compiled a 66-20 (.767) record and built the program into a nationally ranked Top 50 prep destination.
"Casey Stanley is an exceptional coach with a proven track record of success. His deep collegiate experience, paired with a proven ability to recruit and develop student-athletes on and off the court, makes him a terrific fit for Westminster. We are excited to see him lead our men's basketball program into a new era of excellence," said Shelley Jarrard, Director of Athletics.
During his three seasons at Layton Christian Academy (2023-present), Stanley transformed the program into a premier recruiting destination, placing 20 student-athletes into NCAA Division I, II, NAIA, and JUCO programs in two years. He developed international recruiting pipelines generating approximately $1 million in annual tuition impact and negotiated a multi-year Adidas partnership for the entire athletic department. Under his leadership, LCA hosted over 80 collegiate programs annually and competed against elite national prep competition.
Stanley's extensive Division I resume includes two stints at both Iona University and Arkansas State University, along with positions at UNC-Wilmington, Minnesota, Florida International, Louisville, and Seton Hall.
At Arkansas State (2022-23, 2017-20), Stanley served as assistant coach under head coach Mike Balado across four total seasons. He directed program budget management, recruiting operations, and offensive game preparation while recruiting the 2019 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and improving team academic performance.
Stanley's time at Iona University spans two separate periods at his alma mater. Most recently (2020-22), he served as assistant coach under legendary Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino, helping guide the Gaels to the 2021 MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. The team posted a 25-8 record and won the regular season title. Stanley recruited the Rookie of the Year and mentored two All-Conference selections while championing facility upgrades through alumni fundraising. He previously worked at Iona from 2007-10 as Director of Basketball Operations.
Stanley's most notable success came during three seasons (2014-17) as assistant coach at UNC-Wilmington under head coach Kevin Keatts. The Seahawks posted a combined 72-28 record (.720) and went 41-13 (.759) in Colonial Athletic Association play, making back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017. The 2016-17 squad won a school-record 29 games and ranked 10th nationally in scoring at 85.2 points per game.
His Division I experience also includes a stint at Minnesota (2013-14) as video coordinator, where the Gophers won the 2014 NIT championship; Florida International (2012-13) as assistant coach, where the Panthers posted their first winning season in 13 years; Louisville (2011-12) as video coordinator under Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino; and Seton Hall (2010-11) as Coordinator of Basketball Operations.
Throughout his Division I career, Stanley coached seven NBA players and 31 international professionals. Silver Waves Media recognized his impact by naming him one of the 50 Most Impactful Mid-Major Assistants during his time at Iona, one of only three MAAC assistants and one of two from the New York Metropolitan area to earn the distinction.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the Westminster men's basketball program. I want to thank Shelley Jarrard and the entire search committee for their belief in me and my family. Westminster is a special place with a strong academic and athletic foundation, and I'm excited to get to work building a program that our student-athletes, campus, alumni, and community can be proud of. We want to build something that Utah players and families see as a destination, while positioning Westminster to become one of the premier programs in the RMAC and Division II," said Casey Stanley, head coach of Westminster men's basketball.
Stanley takes over a Westminster program that competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) at the NCAA Division II level. This marks his first collegiate head coaching position.
