Westminster University Names Lindsey Calvin Head Volleyball Coach

2/4/2026 12:02:00 PM

SALT LAKE CITY — Westminster University has named Lindsey Calvin as its next head volleyball coach, the Athletics Department announced this week.

Calvin brings experience as both a collegiate coach and professional athlete, most recently serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Westminster during the 2025 season. Prior to returning to Salt Lake City, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Seattle Pacific University after joining the program as a graduate assistant and earning the opportunity to continue as an assistant coach for the next two seasons. During that time, she helped guide the Falcons to a 22–5 record in 2023 and the program's first GNAC championship since 2011. The coaching staff was named GNAC Coaching Staff of the Year that season, and SPU finished second nationally among Division II programs in blocks per set.

During her time at SPU, Calvin worked primarily with middles and opposites, including GNAC Player of the Year and AVCA Second Team All-American Hannah Hair, while also handling defensive scouting, in-match tactics, recruiting, travel, video, and operational responsibilities. She also gained collegiate coaching experience as an assistant at Saint Mary's College of California, where she worked with both the indoor and beach programs and was recognized as a 2022 AVCA Thirty Under 30 Beach Award recipient.

In addition to her collegiate coaching background, Calvin has gained experience at the professional level as a volunteer with LOVB Salt Lake, a women's professional volleyball organization. In that role, she assists with training operations and supports the coaching staff while learning from Olympians, elite professional athletes, and USA National Team coaches.

A former NCAA Division I student-athlete at Saint Mary's, Calvin was a four-year starter and helped lead the Gaels to a 19-win season and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018. She earned multiple West Coast Conference All-Academic honors in both indoor and beach volleyball and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Calvin later earned a Master of Education in Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in 2022, where she received the Faculty Merit Award and served as the program's graduation keynote speaker.

Calvin also brings professional playing experience, competing internationally on the FIVB Beach World Tour and representing the United States in tournaments across Europe and Asia, including a fifth-place finish in Nuvali, Philippines, in May 2025. Indoors, she played professionally in Switzerland and Finland, earning multiple Player of the Match honors.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled to join the Griffin family and lead Westminster University Volleyball! Thank you, truly, to Shelley Jarrard, Laura Iverson, and Joe Kerwin for their trust and support throughout the hiring process and beyond. Hats off as well to Sue Dulaney for a marvelous career and truly leaving the program better than she found it – I am grateful for her mentorship as we build on her foundation and legacy. Westminster is a special place, and this is a special team; I simply can't wait to be back in the gym with this group!" Calvin said.

"I am grateful and excited to welcome Lindsey Calvin as the new leader for our volleyball program," said Interim Director of Athletics, Shelley Jarrard. "I am confident that she will provide our student athletes with outstanding experience and continue to build a competitive volleyball program in a powerhouse conference. Lindsey stood out in the interview process and has tremendous potential. She connects well with both our administration and our student-athletes, and I look forward to working with her and her program."
