Griffins Fall to UCCS On Senior Day

Salt Lake City, UT – Under sunny skies at Dumke Field, the Westminster women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a spirited battle against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS). Despite a thrilling fourth-quarter and a late game-tying goal by Olivia Petrosky, the Griffins fell just short in a 16-15 heartbreaker as UCCS's Sarah Urbanic netted the game-winner with 53 seconds remaining.

It was a back-and-forth contest from the opening draw. After trailing early, Westminster surged ahead 9-5 late in the second quarter, powered by goals from Jordan Williamson, Olivia Petrosky, and Adison Bendorf. But UCCS answered with a string of scores, setting up a dramatic final period.

Petrosky led the Griffins with four goals and one assist, including the game-tying goal with 1:48 left in regulation. Celia Fidanza continued her strong playmaking with four assists and a goal, while Williamson tallied four goals on the afternoon. In the net, Gabriella Cheminant made 13 saves to keep the Griffins within striking distance.

As the regular season winds down and the RMAC Tournament looms, Westminster will look to bounce back on the road Wednesday, April 17, at CSU Pueblo.
