San Rafael, CA — The Westminster Griffins men's lacrosse team started their California road trip in impressive fashion, securing a 15-9 conference win over Dominican University of California on Monday afternoon.
Westminster came out strong, taking an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter with goals from Daxton Jensen and Camden Stanley. Dominican responded with a goal from Tanner Ennis, closing the gap to 2-1 by the end of the opening period.
The Griffins pulled away in the second quarter with a seven-goal outburst. Grayden Easton, Camden Rossi, Sean Gragnola, Cam Conti, Ben Weber, and Luke Sillstrop all found the back of the net, giving Westminster a commanding 9-3 halftime lead.
Westminster's offense continued to click in the second half, with goals from Harrison Edwards, Xavier Monteiro, Taigen Hagen, and Stanley again widening the gap. Despite Dominican's four-goal rally in the final quarter, the Griffins maintained control with Sillstrop scoring his fourth goal of the game in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
Sillstrop led Westminster with four goals, while Stanley added two. Gragnola played a key role as well, contributing a goal and four assists.
On the defensive end, Westminster held Dominican to just three goals in the first half and forced multiple turnovers to limit scoring chances.
Christain Jones played the full time in the cage as he secured the win as goalie with making 12 saves in the victory for the Griffins and was key piece to the defensive effort.
