TAMPA, Fla. – As the game Westminster Griffins trailed by two goals in the fourth period of play, it was
Merritt McMahon who netted both goals in the period to send the Griffins into overtime, but with 2:21 seconds left to play in overtime, it was the
University of Tampa who hit the back of the net in overtime to cap off a thrilling back and forth game which saw the Westminster Griffins Men's Lacrosse fall to one of the top ranked in the country 11-10 on Thursday night in Florida.
The Griffins captured the early lead with the first goal scored by
Skyler Weathers, but despite a late goal in the first period by McMahon the Griffins trailed heading into the next period of play, but back to back goals by Luke Stilstrop and
Joseph Celentano had the Griffins leading after 30 minutes of play as the teams exited to their locker rooms at halftime.
Westminster scored three goals in the third and then two more in the fourth that helped send the game into extra time for the two teams.
UP NEXT: The Griffins will stay in the Sunshine state as they will face-off with
Florida Southern College on Sunday morning as they will play their second of five straight road games.
