Salt Lake City, UT - The 2022-23 regular season has come to an end for the Westminster Women's basketball team, as the Griffins will once again prepare for another RMAC postseason. This year the first round game won't be played in Utah, it will be on the road as the Griffins finished in fifth place in the standings, one game behind the Adams State Grizzlies.
This season has had its streaks for the Women's basketball team. The season began with back-to-back wins and then four straight defeats, but the Griffins learned a lot about themselves during those stretches which included grit.
"I've learned that this team has a lot of grit. We have a lot of fight in us & we never back down from a challenge," said head coach
Jenteal Jackson on what she learned about her team throughout the year.
As the conference season began the streaks continued, the Griffins won four games in a row and then lost four straight after that. After losing four in a row the Griffins ended their season winning eight of the last nine games to claim their spot in the RMAC tournament, during that time the Griffins had their longest winning streak of the year with five wins in a row.
"Great things take time. We have a young group & we have continually been learning & evolving all year, together. The biggest key to us getting to this point is our group being willing to show up, learn, apply that knowledge, and work hard every day to get better," said Jackson. "We have gotten to a great place as a team, where we are playing our best basketball right now."
The Griffins found themselves on the wrong end of a few scores this season, but four of those games were two of those games we lost by one point and two others were single-digit losses, but Coach Jackson knew her team would learn from those games, and they would help be prepared down the stretch.
"We did have a lot of close ones. We grew a lot in those moments, we communicated a lot & worked to stay on the same page. It fueled us to keep working, keep grinding, and keep getting better, day in and day out."
They will now face
Adams State University who was one of the teams who defeated the Griffins during that four-game road trip 55-70.
Tuesday night tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM MDT and you watch the game live on the RMAC Network.
"Adams State is a good team & we have to be ready for them. We will make the necessary adjustments & I have a lot of confidence that our girls will be ready come tip-off," Jackson said. "We are looking forward to Tuesday and just want to leave it all out on the court."
