Women's Basketball | 9/13/2022 10:45:00 AM

Salt Lake City, UT - The Westminster Women's Basketball has released its 2022-23 schedule with some tough matchups with some in-state schools in an exhibition and with a few key home preseason games that will get the players, coaches, and fans excited for the season and with a core of new and returning players, the Griffins are doing everything in their power to be best prepared for the upcoming season.

"I am really excited for the solid core we have returning this year and all the pieces we were able to add in the off-season. Ashley Greenwood was obviously a huge impact player for us and we are grateful to have her back, she can score at will and does so much for our group, in all areas," Head Coach Jenteal Jackson said.  "Lyndzi Rich is a force to be reckoned with and we are so excited to have her back and to see all that she will accomplish in the paint this season. Deserae Falatea continually got better every day and every game last year and is more dialed in than ever and is an extremely explosive athlete."

The Griffins will look to capitalize on last season's 17-9, 16-5 RMAC records from a season ago as they will first turn their attention to the University of Utah on Nov. 2 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center to begin their 2022 in their first exhibition game of the year on Nov. 1 and Jackson will be entering her second year after a great first season in the position.

"My first season was incredible. I learned a lot, as I am sure I will every season. If we aren't learning, we aren't growing, and I hope to always be evolving, especially as a coach," Jackson said. "Our group was so fun to work with, travel with, and grow with. I know how tough our conference is, but I believe last year prepped me in new ways & ways that will stay with me forever, to be ready for the challenge ahead. I was really proud of our group last year and all they accomplished."

The first games that will be played on their home floor at Westminster College inside the Behnken Field House will be back-to-back games with the University of Arkansas Fort Smith on Nov. 11 and 12 and coach Jackson knows that some of her returning players will be impact players as they prepare for the conference schedule during the preseason.

"Caitlyn Okerlund is a quick & savvy guard who does so much for our group, even in categories that aren't charted. Jaycee Litchie and Mailey Ballard are looking better than ever as they returned to the court this Fall and we are excited for them to be back with us. All these players have shown up eager, ready to work, and are doing a great job leading their group."

The following weekend Nov. 18 and 19 the Griffins will host three other teams in two days as MSU-Denver, Northwest Nazarene University, and Central Washington will be in town for the weekend with games starting at 3:00 P.M. and will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.

"Our pre-season is tough! There is no way around that. I believe as a coach, that's how you want it to be to get your group best prepared for the season ahead," said Jackson. "Our pre-season is full of Top 25 D2 programs, 2 top 25 D1 programs, and a very successful D1 in Idaho State University. We look forward to the challenge ahead and love that it will adequately prepare us for our highly competitive RMAC conference play."

The first conference games will begin on Dec. 2 with a matchup with Metropolitan State University of Denver and on Dec. 3 with Colorado School of Mines coach Jackson is ready for the year and is excited to begin the new journey in year two.

"My first year as a head coach really just further solidified how much I love this job."
