Spencer Whinery and
Dylan Brauer led the way for Westminster (3-2, 0-1 RMAC) as they defeated the Falcons in 17-6 victory to lead the way to their first home win of the 2022 season.
The Westminster Griffins began their home opener on Dumke Field under the light as the University of Montevallo made their way to Westminster College for the first time in their schools history. The Griffins found a way to net 10 goals in the first half of action which they added seven more in the second half as they began their first of back to back homes games after starting the season on the road.
The Griffins started out exactly as they would of hoped for with quick goals in the first period of action as they were able to outscore the Faclons 8-2 with goals scored by Brauer (two,)
Merritt McMahon, Connor Frederick, Zennon Larforce,
Spencer Whinery,
Gabe Mein and
Easton Alberted scored the final two of the period.
After scoring eight goals in the first period, the Griffins scored nine more times which saw three goals in each of the remaining periods to close out the victory in front of their home crowd who saw the Griffins defense hold the Falcons scoreless in the final period.
Westminster will now turn their attention to their first conference home game of the 2022 season as
Colorado State University Pueblo makes the travel to Salt Lake City, as they will first take on
University of Montevallo on Friday night on Dumke Field, before taking on the Griffins Sunday, afternoon. Both games will be broadcasted live on the RMAC Network.
