Women's Basketball Set to Host Fourth-Straight RMAC Tournament Quarterfinal

Third-seeded Westminster women's basketball will play sixth-seeded MSU Denver for the third time this season after winning each of the first two by double digits.

SALT LAKE CITY - Third-seeded Westminster women's basketball (17-8, 16-5 RMAC) hosts sixth-seeded MSU Denver (19-8, 15-7 RMAC) in the first round of the 2022 RMAC Women's Basketball Tournament on, Tues., March 1, 2022, tipping-off at 6 p.m., at Behnken Field House.

The Griffins won their final three games of the regular season to lock up RMAC quarterfinal hosting rights for a fourth-straight year, and welcome a Roadrunners team that Westminster beat twice this season, both times by double digits.

-  General admission into all RMAC Tournament games is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, children and current Westminster students with a valid student ID.

-  Westminster went 2-0 on its final road trip of the season to finish the regular season on a three-game winning streak.
- The Griffins beat Fort Lewis, 68-40, after holding the Sky Hawks to single-digit scoring in the second, third and fourth quarters on Thursday night.
- The 40 points allowed to FLC were the fewest points given up by the Griffins since a 65-36 win over N.M. Highlands back on Feb. 11, 2017.
- The 18 second-half points allowed by Westminster at FLC on Thursday night were its fewest points allowed in a half since allowing only 17 in the second half of last season's NCAA Tournament loss vs Azusa Pacific.
- For the second time in three games, Westminster shot over 55 percent from the floor as a team in a 73-65 win at Western on Saturday night.
- Westminster finished Thursday's contest 29-of-53 (55 percent) from the floor as a team and are 9-2 when scoring 25 or more field goals as a team.
- The Griffins won four of their last five games to move into the third seed in the 2022 RMAC Tournament, winning each contest by double-digits save for a five-point loss to 13th-ranked Colo. School of Mines.

About the Roadrunners (19-8, 15-7 RMAC):
- MSU Denver suffered its worst shooting night of the season, going 19-of-59 (32 percent) from the floor as a team in December's conference-opening loss to Westminster.
- The Roadrunners were then held to just 21-of-59 (37 percent) shooting overall in February's road loss at Behnken Field House, their fourth-lowest fg percentage on the season.
- MSU Denver won 12 of 13 games from Dec. 18 - Feb. 10, but dropped two of its final three contests with a four-point overtime loss to UCCS in its home finale and a 12-point road loss at Black Hills State in its regular-season finale last weekend.
- Allie Navarette is the team's leading scorer and ranks 11th in the RMAC with 12.8 ppg. She also ranks fifth in the RMAC with 6.9 rebounds per game.
- Teammate Jaela Richaradson is seventh in the RMAC with 6.6 rpg and eighth with 1.1 blocks per game.
- Tosjanae Bonds is fifth in the conference with 2.2 steals per game.
- Series History:
    - The Griffins have won five straight over the Roadrunners including two wins by double digits earlier this season.
    - Westminster won the conference opener for both teams, 62-48, back on Dec. 4.  The Griffins then won a make-up contest at home, 66-54, back on Feb. 15 in a game that had been rescheduled from Jan. 15 due to COVID-19 safety protocol.
    - Westminster is 6-3 against MSU Denver since reinstating the women's basketball program in 1999-2000.
    - Ashley Greenwood poured in 22 points after knocking down 10-of-12 free throw's back in the December matchup and the Griffins outscored MSU Denver 23-8 in the game's final quarter.
    - Westminster is 3-1 at Behnken Field House against MSU Denver, winning back-to-back home games against the Roadrunners after February's 11-point win.

The 2022 RMAC Women's Basketball Tournament will continue with the semifinal round on Friday followed by the conference championship matchup on Saturday.  The host institution for the semifinal and championship rounds will be the highest remaining seeded team following Tuesday's quarterfinal round.
