Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Grizzlies Steal Home Win; Griffins Fall Short in Double OT

Westminster men's basketball let late leads slip in the second half and overtime as Adams State bounced back from a Friday night loss to win in double overtime.

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Yusuf Mohamed went 13-14 at the free throw line and finished with a team-high 20 points off of the bench but Westminster men's basketball (9-15, 7-11 RMAC) saw late leads slip to end regulation and overtime as Adams State (11-12, 7-10 RMAC) won 101-96 in double overtime on Saturday night at Plachy Hall.

Lewis Johnson went 3-of-4 from behind the arc and Bradyen Johnson added 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting with a team-leading six rebounds.  Like Mohamde, Brantzen Blackner (12 pts) and Taylor Miller (11 pts) also reached double figures in points off of the bench in the first overtime game of the season for Westminster.  Blackner also had a team-high four assists and his season-high scoring output came on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor including a pair of trey's.

Westminster finished with the 33-28 rebounding advantage and a 40-32 advantage in points in the paint but late-game shooting from the Grizzlies proved the difference in a game that saw 12 ties and 12 lead changes.

Adams State finished regulation on a 9-2 run to force overtime but Westminster was still able to edge out a five-point lead with only 15 seconds to play.  Rylan O'Brien converted on a four-point play to get back within one possession with 10 seconds to play, and after Reme Torbert converted a pair of free throws to put Westminster back in front by three, Tyrin Hollis banked in a three at the final buzzer to even the game at 87-87 and force a second overtime.

Westminster scored on back-to-back offensive possessions, taking a three-point lead into the final 120 seconds of the second overtime, but the Griffins were unable to answer the Grizzlies' offense in the final minute as an ASU went back in front 97-96 on a made three-pointer from Nykolas Lange.  The Grizzlies added to their lead at the free throw line in the closing seconds for their third overtime win of the season.

The Griffins will return home next week for its final home games of the season hosting Colorado School of Mines on Fri., Feb. 18, and Regis on Sat., Feb. 19, both games tipping-off at 7 p.m.
