SALT LAKE CITY - Lydia Parkinson (Miller) (14),
Avery Alger (11), and
Olivia Curtis (11), each hit double-digit kills but Westminster women's volleyball (2-9, 1-3 RMAC) fell behind early and lost, 3-1, to Northwest Nazarene (2-9, 0-4 GNAC) on Tuesday night at the Behnken Field House.
After splitting a pair of matches back in the spring, the two familiar foes traded long rallies throughout the night as Westminster fell just short in a 26-24 fourth set loss to narrowly miss what would have been its third-consecutive five-set match.
Northwest Nazarene pulled away late in the opening set to win, 25-20, and led start-to-finish in the second to win, 25-19. Westminster bounced back with a third-set win and traded runs with the Nighthawks throughout the fourth, but a pair of late Griffins' errors helped push NNU over the finish line in 26-24 fourth-set.
The Griffins heightened their offensive efficiency over their season averages, finishing with a .222 hitting percentage for the match including a .340 mark attacking in the third set to win, 25-23, and force a fourth frame. Westminster tallied 61 kills as a team as setter,
Bri Mortensen, dished out 45 assists to go along with four kills and 16 digs.
Westminster will resume its RMAC schedule this weekend as it heads to Denver to take on Colorado Christian on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by an afternoon match at MSU Denver on Saturday at 3 p.m.
