Men’s Lacrosse Defeated By #18 Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Westminster men's lacrosse team finished the regular season on the road at #18 Colorado Mesa (8-1, 5-0 RMAC). Mike Spaeth and Merritt McMahon led the Griffins (5-5, 3-2 RMAC) with two goals each in a 7-16 defeat.

The Griffins led twice in the first period. Spencer Whinery scored the game's opening goal two minutes in. The Mavericks tied it with a goal nearly halfway through the period. Easton Albert scored less than a minute later regaining the lead.

Mesa scored two more to finish the period for a 3-2 lead. They scored five in the second half for a 8-2 halftime lead.

The Griffins entered the final period behind by eleven after being out scored 2-7 in the third period. They scored three in the fourth period to reduce the deficit by two to finish the game.

MyMachon and Spaeith combined for four of Westminster's five second half goals. McMahon led the team with three points form two goals and an assist.

Hagan Buchanan went 11-24 on face offs and picked up two ground balls. Kyle Williams led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with three in each.

Jordan Penn and Jacob Miller split time in the goal facing 55 shots. They both made nine saves and finished with a .529 save percentage.

The Griffins will play CSU Pueblo in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Semifinals on Friday, May 7, in Grand Junction, Colo.
