Men's Lacrosse Lose At No. 3 Mercyhurst

ERIE, Penn.—The men's lacrosse team finished a weekend road trip at No. 3 Mercyhurst. Westminster fell to the Lakers, 18-12, after giving up 14 first half points.

Westminster took 39 shots, 21 on goal, to Mercyhust's 47, 31 on goal. Mercyhurst controlled the game winning 23 faceoffs and picking up 41 ground balls to Westminster's 17 ground balls and 10 face off wins.

The Lakers dominated the first half score line with 14 points. Westminster scored four goals—three in the first period and one in the second. Merritt McMahon gave Westminster its only lead with the opening goal of the game. Keagan Jones scored Westminster's second goal and Blake Gross scored on a man-up opportunity for the third. Andoni Odencrantz completed the scoring with the first goal of the second period.
 
The Griffins won the second half by four, out scoring the home side 8-4. Westminster shut Mercyhurst out in the third period and took three points back with goals from Will Dutton, Chance Beutler and Odencrantz.
 
Dylan Brauer and Jacob Pickett cut the deficit to five with goals to start the fourth period. Merritt McMahon scored two more, completing a hat-trick, and Quinn Lewis scored Westminster's final goal of the evening.
 
Gavin Beilman faced 47 shots between the pipes and made 13 saves. Beutler picked up four ground balls to lead the team. Kyle Williams, Lewis and Gavin Piva each had three.
 
McMahon led the team with four points from three goals and one assist.  Brauer had three points from two assists and a goal, and Odencrantz, Dutton and Jones each had two points.
 
Kaleb Kueber led the Lakers with nine points from five goals and four assists. Shawn Doran picked up 15 ground balls, Tommy Angelicola caused five turnovers and goalie Cole Pellicano made nine saves.
 
The Griffins host Colorado Mesa, under the lights, in their RMAC home-opener on Friday, Apr. 2, at 7 pm.
