Women's Basketball Set For Friday Night Home Opener

Westminster women's basketball will host Chadron State on Friday night followed by Black Hills State on Saturday.

SALT LAKE CITY - After a 2-0 start to conference play last week, Westminster women's basketball (3-3, 2-0 RMAC) gets set to host its first two home games of the season as it takes on Chadron State (3-5, 2-0 RMAC) on Friday night followed by Black Hills State (4-4, 2-0 RMAC) on Saturday night at the Behnken Field House, both games tipping at 5 p.m.

Game Info:
- Both of this weekend's women's basketball games will be hosted at the Behnken Field House. General admission into all games is $8.
-  Tickets for all home basketball games can be purchased at westminstergriffins.com/tickets.

- After a 1-3 start to the season in nonconference play, Westminster bounced back with a 2-0 start to the RMAC season with wins over MSU Denver and Colorado Christian.
- The Griffins own a +29 scoring margin over teams in the first and fourth quarters, but are -30 against teams in the second and third.
- Westminster shot a season-high 44 percent from three (8-of-18) and went 12-of-14 (.857 pct) as a team at the free throw line against Colorado Christian.
- The Griffins held both of last week's opponents under 60 points and held MSU Denver to a 20-of-54 (37 percent) shooting from the field, a season-low for a Westminster opponent.
- Westminster pulled in a season-high 41 rebounds against MSU Denver that included a season-best 14 boards on the offensive glass.
- The Griffins have held teams to just 41 percent shooting overall and just 29 percent shooting from three.

- #24 Ashley Greenwood
  - Last Week: 19.0 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 6 assists
  - Attempted 20 of the Griffins 39 free throws, going 16-of-20 (80 percent) at the line in Westminster's two conference wins last weekend.
  - Had 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting, added four assists and two offensive rebounds vs CCU on Sunday.
  - Finished with a team-leading 22 points and 10-of-12 at the free throw line at MSU Denver on Saturday.  She also added two assists and three rebounds vs MSU Denver.

Experienced Lineup:
- Westminster's experienced 2021-22 roster has appeared in 493 career games collectively with 263 career collegiate starts across the Griffins' lineup.
- Hunter Krebs and Sarah McGinley both started their 100th career game in Westminster's season opener against Central Washington on Nov. 26.
- Krebs has made each of her 103 career starts for the purple and gold while McGinley made her first 49 starts at CCU where she was an all-conference forward for the Cougars.
- Westminster's 2021-22 roster includes three starters from the 2020-21 team that reached the NCAA Division II West Regional final.

Tipping Off Conference Play:
- Westminster has now won three of its last four conference openers after opening the RMAC season with a 14-point win at MSU Denver.  The Griffins are 5-3 to begin conference play since joining the RMAC.
- Westminster saw its first three scheduled conference games of 2020-21 postponed due to COVID-19 protocol and finally began the conference season on Dec. 12 against Black Hills State.  The Griffins would have four more contests throughout the season canceled or postponed due to the pandemic.
- The Griffins are 2-2 in road conference openers since joining the RMAC back in 2015.

Griffins In the RMAC:
- Westminster sits in a four-way tie for second in the RMAC after a 2-0 start to the conference season.
- Westminster has finished in the top three of the final RMAC standings in each of the past three years.
- The Griffins won four of their final five RMAC contests last season to finish in third place with a tiebreaker over MSU Denver.

All-Time Home & Away (see notes for full list):
- Westminster is 194-79 (.711) at home since reinstating the program back in 1999.
- Since moving into the Behnken Field House in 2005, Westminster has never had a home losing record and went unbeaten at home, a perfect 13-0 back in 2013-14.
- Westminster went 5-2 at home last season and is now 165-46 (.782) all-time at the Behnken Field House.

- Westminster has won three-straight home openers, all by double digits including an 84-63 win over Chadron State last season.
- Westminster had its first four home games of 2020-21 either canceled or postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions and finally hosted its first game on Jan. 9, the latest all-time home opener in program history.
-  The Griffins are 12-10 all-time in home openers and are 5-1 since joining the RMAC in 2015.

    - 40 Riley Aiono - 1.6 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 4 steals
- Chadron State dropped three road non-conference games to begin the season before picking up its first win at home over Mount Marty on Nov. 21.
- The Eagles suffered a 27-point loss at Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 27 but came back with a 23-point win over Fort Lewis in their conference opener last Friday.
- Chadron State won its second-straight to begin the RMAC season with a 24-9 fourth quarter to beat Western Colorado, 60-51, last Saturday.
- The Eagles have gone four consecutive seasons finishing in the bottom three of the RMAC.  Chadron State finished at the bottom of the 2020-21 conference standings with an 0-12 record on the season.
- Chadron State Series History:
    - Westminster is 5-2 in the all-time series and has won four straight and five of six meetings.
    - The Griffins won last year's matchup, 84-63, at home and are 4-0 all-time against Chadron State at the Behnken Field House.
    - Westminster has won each of the past four games all by double digits including a 36-point win in Salt Lake City back in 2019, the largest win in the all-time series.

About the Yellow Jackets (4-4, 2-0 RMAC):

- Reigning RMAC Champions, Black Hills State have posted four straight winning seasons in the conference with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances during that stretch.
- The Yellow Jackets went 2-2 to begin the season but dropped a pair of games in Hawaii to conclude non-conference action.
- Black Hills State trailed by two heading into the final minute of last Friday's game against Western Colorado and tied the game with 23 seconds to play on a layup from Danica Kocer.
- The Yellow Jackets made a quick defensive stop and closed out a conference opening win with a go-ahead bucket from Haylee Weathersby.
- BHSU then went on to outscore Fort Lewis 37-14 in the second half to win, 66-38 on Saturday afternoon.
- Black Hills State Series History:
    - Westminster and Black Hills State saw each other three times last season with two postseason matchups.  BHSU won the regular-season and RMAC Tournament games but Westminster won 74-65 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Grand Junction, Colo.
    - In the NCAA Tournament, Westminster held Black Hills State scoreless over the final 3:25 to outscore the Yellow Jackets 19-11 in the final quarter.
    - Black Hills State leads the series, 6-3, and is 3-1 in Salt Lake City.

Up Next:
Westminster will close out a brief three-game home stand next Thursday, Nov. 16, as it hosts CSU Pueblo beginning at 5 p.m. back in the Behnken Field House.
