LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Karter Cook scored in the 57th minute and Westminster men's soccer (9-8, 6-3 RMAC) completed its fifth shutout of the season to clinch its spot in the Fall 2021 RMAC Tournament with a 1-0 win at CCU (10-5, 4-5 RMAC) on Friday.
The lone goal of Friday's match came just over ten minutes after the halftime break when
Jace Vance sent a free kick from midfield into the Cougars penalty area. Vance's free kick flew to the far side of the goal where
Loic Fauquembergue headed a ball back across the goal face. Cook then attacked the loose ball and powered a shot past CCU's goalkeeper Michel Pinoncely to put Westminster ahead, 1-0.
CCU finished with a 10-3 advantage in second-half shots and finished with a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal but
Ian Rose had added six more saves to his season total to complete his fourth shutout victory of the season.
This will mark the fourth-straight season that the Griffins have qualified for the RMAC Tournament but Westminster will still be in search of its first conference tournament win heading into next week.
Westminster will return to host its regular-season finale on Sunday against 17th-ranked Colorado School of Mines beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The Griffins will then await the remainder of RMAC men's soccer results to determine their final RMAC Tournament seeding and first-round matchup.
