Volleyball to Host Fort Lewis College and Western Colorado

Westminster will take on Fort Lewis College on Friday night at 6 p.m. before taking on Western Colorado Saturday at 4 p.m.

SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster volleyball (4-18, 2-10 RMAC) gets set to host a pair of RMAC matches this weekend at Behnken Field House with a Friday night battle against Fort Lewis College (6-10, 6-6 RMAC) at 6 p.m. followed by a Saturday match against Western Colorado beginning at 4 p.m.

-  Tickets for all Westminster volleyball home matches can be purchased at westminstergriffins.com/tickets
-  General admission into Behnken Field House is $8.
-  Current Westminster College students, faculty and staff are offered free admission into all WC home events but are required to present an active Westminster Identification Card to gain entry. 
-  All Westminster volleyball  matches are available for FREE streaming on the RMAC Network.  Viewers can watch live online or download the RMAC Network app from all major video streaming app stores.

About the Griffins:
- Westminster has seen an improved attack over its most recent stretch of RMAC matches but have lost three of its last four.
- The Griffins fell 3-1 at NNU on Wednesday and went 0-2 on the road last week with a 3-0 loss at CSU Pueblo and a 3-1 loss at UC-Colorado Springs.
- Westminster had a .229 attack percentage against CSU Pueblo, its second-highest mark in the month of October, but allowed CSU Pueblo to hit .377 with 51 kills as a team.
Lydia Parkinson (Miller) leads the team with 2.25 k/s and Olivia Curtis sits in second with 2.05 k/s.
- Curtis led the Griffins in their 3-0 win over Black Hills State with a 13-kill, .813 hitting percentage performance and had a team-high .320 attack percentage with 11 kills last week against CSU Pueblo.
- Setter Bri Mortensen leads the team with 6.51 assists/set while all-around contributor Katie Jacox has added 3.04 assists/set.  Jacox has a team-leading 31 service aces, 1.52 k/s, 2.53 digs/set and 32 blocks this season.
Malinda Messner (47) and Avery Alger (45) lead the team in blocks and libero Alanna Lee is at 3.81 digs/set so far this season.

About the Sky Hawks:
- Fort Lewis won 3-1 (14-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-13) over Westminster in the first matchup between the two back on Oct. 9.  In that match, Olivia Curtis had a team-leading nine kills and Avery Alger added eight.  Katie Jacox and Lydia Parkinson (Miller) each had three aces in the first match-up and Avery Alger had a match-high seven blocks.
- Fort Lewis (6-10, 6-6 RMAC) went 0-4 in non-conference play and had a slow start to the conference season but travel to Salt Lake City with wins in four of its last five matches including three-straight five-set wins.
-  The Skyhawks beat UCCS, 3-2, on the road back on Oct. 16 and defeated S.D. Mines and Black Hills State in five sets at home last weekend.
- Fort Lewis begins the week on the edge of postseason position in eighth place in the RMAC standings.  The sit in a three-way tie at 6-6 in conference play and hold just one match on ninth-place Adams State (9-12, 5-7 RMAC).

About the Mountaineers:
- Western Colorado won the first matchup of the season against Westminster, 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17), back on Oct. 8.  Katie Jacox and Avery Alger each had a team-high nine kills. Alger and Kenzy Christensen each had four blocks on the day while Katie Jacox and Alanna Lee each finished with 15 digs.  Jacox also added four aces on the night.
- Western (11-9, 6-6 RMAC) also sits in a three-way tie in the RMAC standings with its .500 conference record.  The Mountaineers dropped three-straight earlier this month but went 2-0 at home last weekend with a 3-1 win over Black Hills State and a 3-2 win over South Dakota Mines.
- Western Colorado is fifth in the RMAC with 11.37 assists/set and fifth with 12.60 kills/set but have given up the second-most kills to opponents at 13.40 k/set.
- Kat Finnerty leads the conference with 1.26 blocks/set and led the match with 15 kills in the Mountaineers' Oct. 8 win over Westminster.

Up Next:
Westminster will make its final two-match road trip of the conference season next week as it heads to Colorado School of Mines on Fri., Nov. 5, and Chadron State on Sat, Nov. 6.
