SALT LAKE CITY – A Utah showdown in Grand Junctions, Colo., as third seeded Westminster takes on seventh seeded Dixie State in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball semi-finals at 7:30 pm in Brownson Arena.
The Griffins (23-6, 17-5 RMAC) defeated the Hardrockers (15-12, 13-9 RMAC), 76-70, Tuesday night to advance to the semi-finals of the RMAC Championship against the Trailblazers (18-11, 12-10). The Griffins are on a six game win streak and are led in scoring by
Mariah Martín at 15.7 points per game and
Hunter Krebs at 15.6 points per game. Martín leads the team in assists at 4.1 per game.
Sarah McGinley adds 13.31 points per game and 6.0 rebounds, and
Kaitlin Toluono leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game to go with 9.6 points.
The Trailblazers (18-11, 12-10 RMAC) upset second seeded Western Colorado (20-7, 18-4 RMAC) to advance to the semi-finals. Ali Franks leads the Trailblazers with 13.0 points per game. London Pavlica adds 8.2 points per game and leads the team with 6.9 rebound per game, 4.2 assists per game and 1.3 steals per game. Madi Loftus is second on the team in scoring with 11.2 points per game.
The Griffins and Trailblazers opened and ended the regular season against each other. Westminster won both times defeating the Dixie State 63-59 in the first meeting and 72-69 a week ago to end the regular season.
A win would send the Griffins to their second straight conference final in a possible rematch of last year's final against top seeded Colorado Mesa or against fourth seeded Colorado School of Mines.
