DENVER,Colo.—Westminster men's soccer team defeated Regis University (RU) , 1-0, to remain undefeated in RMAC play. A late goal by
Danny Darelli secured the win and the three points for the Griffins.
"Today is a huge win," Head Coach
Josh Pittman said. Regis is a very good side."
The teams played to a 0-0 draw. The half was even with Westminster taking five shots and Regis taking four. Goalkeeper for both teams came up with a save to keep the half scoreless.
The Griffins stepped up their defense in the second half and held the Rangers to only two shots with one on goal.
"Our backs were very solid and made it difficult for them to play in our defensive third. Will came up huge in the goal."
Westminster outshot the home side 6-2 in the second half.
Adir Hazout nearly scored in the 59
th minute and Darelli came close in the 73
rd but Regis goalkeeper Tim Dolan saved both attempts.
With the game nearing the end Desanits was called into action saving a shot, headed for the bottom left corner. The Rangers were called for a foul on the ensuing corner and Westminster regained possession.
Westminster quickly moved the ball up the field through a series of passes for its final chance in the game. Darelli scored the game winner with a terrific diving effort to get onto a service from Kjellandar.
Darelli scored his seventh goal and fourth game winner of the season. Kjellandar recorded his second assist.
Desantis and the defense are yet to give up a goal in conference play, recording their sixth shutout of the season.
The Griffins improved to 4-0 in conference and will be tested on the road at Fort Lewis and Colorado Mesa next weekend.
