Josh Pittman, is set to begin his eighth season as the Westminster Men's Soccer Head Coach in 2024 this fall.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing athletics stoppage, Pittman had overseen the program's transition to NCAA Division II competition and in just his fourth season, he helped the Griffins reach their first back-to-back winning records since 2011-12. Pittman also coached the Griffins' first NCAA All-Region and All-American honorees in 2019, as Preston Mcllece (2019 First Team All-Region) and Bridger Hansen (2019 Third Team All-American) closed out decorated individual playing careers.
Pittman directed the Griffins' momentous 2018 season, earning RMAC Coach of the Year accolades after the team finished 14-4-1 with five-straight victories to close out the regular season. In Westminster's first year as an active NCAA Division II member, Pittman's men's soccer program finished as the fifth-ranked team in the NCAA South Central Region and second in the RMAC. In addition to Pittman's coach of the year honors, Amit Hefer was named the RMAC Player of the Year for 2018.
Pittman took over in 2016, as Westminster began the second of three years as a provisional NCAA member institution. During his initial years, the Griffins improved from 4-13 in 2016 to 7-10-1 in 2017. Although the team still needed time to progress in the win column, Pittman's impact as a leader was quickly made evident as a pair of Griffins earned all-conference honors in 2017. Amit Hefer was also named the 2017 Freshman of the Year in addition to his first-team all-conference recognition.
Before Westminster, Pittman followed his tenure as the program's first Head Men's Soccer Coach at Colorado Mesa with one season at Dixie State in 2015. During that year, Dixie State went 10-2-4 and finished as the Pac West Conference Runner-Up. Pittman was named the 2015 Pac West and NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year.
His time at CMU was highlighted by a trip to the 2013 RMAC Tournament Championship, which was the last of a trio of conference tournament appearances for the team in just seven seasons since Pittman helped launch the program in 2007. Before rising to the ranks of head coach, Pittman was an Associate Head Coach at Adams State University and an Assistant Head Coach at Metro State Denver from 2000-02. His first collegiate coaching experience came, however, as a Graduate Assistant at East Strousburg University.
Pittman has spent time at the club level with Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids as a Rapids Development Academy Coach. He's also coached youth soccer in various roles with the Colorado West Select Soccer Club, Grand Junction Soccer Club, Real Colorado, Denver Soccer Club, and currently, the Apex Soccer Club.
Originally, from the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, he played professional soccer for the Detroit Neon and Detroit Wheels in the CISL and USISL, respectively. His professional stint came on the heels of a four-year playing career at the University of Massachusetts.
Pittman resides in Salt Lake City where he lives with his wife Miriel, daughter June, and dog Leo. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from U-Mass and a Master’s Degree in Education from East Stroudsburg University.
